Application requirements
Important information
- The application period for winter semesters opens annually on February 1 and ends on July 15. There is no summer semester intake!
- There is no application fee! You only have to pay an annual semester fee of around 320 euros if you are admitted.
We recommend non-EU applicants to apply until the end of May to have sufficient time for visa procedures.
- If you can prove that your visa appointment takes place before November 30th, we can issue a Late Arrival Letter on request.
- Please note: Arrivals after November 30th, due to visa issues or otherwise, will not be supported!
Application requirements
All documents need to be in English or German.
We do not accept applications by regular post.
Please upload the following documents to our application portal Unisono
A copy of your Bachelor's degree with a standard period of study of at least six semesters and an final average grade of 2.5 or better according to the German grading scale.
- An academic background in economics is an advantage but not necessarily required. Please document you mathematical or statistical background if you have no or a weak economic background.
- If you do not yet have a Bachelor's degree but will graduate before September 30 , please attach a copy of your current transcript of records. Please note that admission depends on completing your studies before September 30.

A transcript of records (please make sure that a grading table from your university is either on the ToR or separately uploaded to Unisono.)

A proof of proficiency in English of at least level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The following documents can demonstrate language proficiency comparable to a B2 level:
- TOEFL test results of at least 548 (paper-based), or 212 (computer-based test) or 79 (internet-based test)
The TOEFL code for the University of Siegen is 8429. - IELTS test with a minimum score of 6.5 points
- Cambridge/Oxford Certificate: PET
- English language qualifications obtained through at least five years of English instruction in secondary/high school like in Germany. You are required to enclose copies of your upper secondary/high school certificates, including course and examination descriptions of your English language course for these five years.
- TOEFL test results of at least 548 (paper-based), or 212 (computer-based test) or 79 (internet-based test)
Instead of a motivation letter, please answer the following motivational questions and upload it.
A short CV.
A writing example (for example a seminar paper or Bachelor/Master thesis).
An APS certificate (only required in case you attained your graduation certificate in the PR of China, India or Vietnam).
Optional documents:
- A recommendation letter (upload to Unisono, not via Email!).
- A GRE-test will help to improve your chances of admission (either submit a copy or via ETS [Siegen: 8420]).

Procedure after your application:
You will receive a confirmation mail from the unisono system.
The Admission Commission decides about the eligiblity for the MEPS program. You will receive a mail, as soon as any decisions is made. Unfortunately, due to the high number of applications it is not possible to give individualized reasons for rejection.
In case of a positive admission decision, you will receive an official admission letter.
The admission letter contains a list of documents that you need to submit for your enrollment at the university.
The whole team of Professors and lectures is looking forward to meeting you during the welcome week.
Data information: In order to improve selection processes, we would like to save and study the information shared with us in the application documents. Your information will not be used for commercial aims. Individual information will not be shared with third parties. Only anonymized information of successfull applicants who registered at the University of Siegen will be part of a potential study such that inferences about individual applicants are not possible in case the study will be published. Please, let us know (e.g. via meps@uni-siegen.de) at any point of time if you don’t want us to use of your information for our study or if you want your data to be deleted. Either way, this will not bias the assessment of your application.
